Say Yes to the Dress

In January I began working at Abbingtons bridal shop as a prom consultant. I have seen my fair share of girls walk in and look for a prom or other formal occasion dress. Of course, all of these girls have not walked out with a dress, and for some, I feel as if they have made a huge mistake.

More often than not these girls have come to Abbingtons from out of town with the sole purpose of buying a prom dress that day. Let's face it, it's coming down to crunch time. Yes, prom may be another two and a half months away, but with alterations, date, tuxedo, accessories, and flowers to worry about, the dress should be top priority at the moment. Why on earth would you drive, for some, 90 minutes to buy a prom dress, try on a dozen beautiful dresses, find the one that looks absolutely stunning on you that is also 25% off, and walk out empty handed? I just can't seem to figure it out. Now, I realize that some of these people might not have been willing to shovel out the extra cash for the perfect dress, but if they drove the 90 minutes especially to come to Abbingtons (which is known for it's designer original gowns)I would think that they would have been prepared? After all, for most of the girls who I have dealt with, this is their senior year, and as a senior myself I know that I wanted what I deemed the perfect dress, no matter the price tag, and my mom felt the same way.
That's why I 'Said Yes to the Dress'.

In regards to the girls who walked out empty handed I said 'What Were They Thinking'?

What You Don't Say, Your Outfit Does

This week's topic has to do with dressing appropriately.

It all started Friday night at Olive Garden. This weekend was the Regional Swimming and Diving competition, and I would assume that all of the swimmers wanted to get their carb-loading done on Friday night, because it was a packed house. Because of this the very small front lobby of Olive Garden was packed, and I was forced to sit on a table as soon as you walked through the door. Because of this I had the opportunity to see everyone as they walked through the door. After about ten minutes of waiting, in walked a group of girls who appeared as if they were also doing their carb-loading before they went out for a night on the town. The first through that walked in the door looked sensible, yet sexy. What they didn't say, their outfit said, "Hey, I like to have fun. Come talk to me." to any boy that might have been passing by. The next girl, sadly, was saying "HEY!!!! I love to have fun! And we don't even have to talk!" What was she wearing? A low cut black cotton above-the-knee dress, high heel black knee-high boots, and a YELLOW trench coat, unbuttoned. Now, what message did she think she was sending? If she can't respect herself by putting on something that is decent, yet still attractive to the opposite sex, then how does she expect for guys to respect her?

The worst part is probably that her friends let her walk out of the house like that! And it's not as if they didn't have a clue of the message her outfit was sending, because they were all dressed tastefully (one girl was wearing skinny jeans, high heels, a flowy top, and a clutch). I seriously contribute at least 18% of all faux pas in fashion to the girl who told her friend that she looked great, simply because she didn't want to hurt her feelings, when really she is causing the girl more heart ache by letting her go out on the town looking like she should have stayed on the street corner.

Of course, yellow-trench-coat-girl-syndrome could have been avoided if she had asked herself "What am I thinking? It's the middle of winter, it is snowing outside, I'm wearing a yellow trench coat, and I do not want to wake up next to a random someone tomorrow morning not remembering how I got there."

Color Happy

Last week's blog topic was one in which I am very passionate about I'll have to say. Even though I am not as passionate about this week's blog topic, it is one in which I thoroughly believe needs to be addressed.

This week's topic is: Dying Your Hair

Throughout the week I searched through my brain for a blog topic that would address a new issue, and this one just walked right into me, literally. I was on my way to the beautiful Angela Gunter's classroom, minding my own business as I walked down the hallway, and a rampant sophomore ran right into me! As if that wasn't enough her fire engine red (okay, maybe not fire engine red, but close enough) hair whipped into my face. When she and I were untangled I noticed that it was a girl that I had known for about three years! I could not believe my eyes. A girl who had lovely blonde hair with spectacular undertones had turned her hair one mucky red-orange color. Now, this hair color may have (probably not) suited her if done by a professional, but this clearly looked as if she was the guinea pig in her friend's hair-dying-escapade. I asked myself why she would turn such pretty hair such an undesirable color. I wanted nothing more than to ask her such a question, but alas she and I were just acquaintance, and it probably would have bordered on rude. However, I did not want to be rude, I just wanted to inform her of her mistake that she could fix it (thank goodness it was merely hair dye and not 8 inches cut off her long locks), and look she as pretty as she did before. Of course, one would claim that it is not hair color that makes you pretty, but it sure has something to do with it, whether one would like to admit it or not.

Continuing on the topic of hair color and beauty enhancers, I believe that some people should considering getting their hair colored by a professional in order to enhance their look and charm. For example, last night at the Grammy's the very successful Taylor Swift (who looked beautiful in her sparkling blue gown by the way) had her hair color and odd blondish gray color. While down it did not appear so, but when put up, it looked in dire need of some more blonde put in it. I firmly believe that this would have enhanced her look to one that would have been unforgettable, just like her unbelievable 'Album of the Year' win.
Of course Taylor and fire-engine-red are both pretty girls with or without changes in their hair color, but I am just here to ask them What They Were Thinking? in order to state what I believe would make them even more pretty than they are now, after-all, that is my point in all of this, not to be rude or seem as if I know everything there is to know about fashion, because that, I will admit, I do not.

In case you are just another girl interested in fashion E! will be hosting a special Fashion Police tonight in honor of the Grammy's at 10/9c, I know I'll be watching.
