What the Flip?

Even though my blog has not been published by Ms. Gunter yet I have let a few of my friends read it and make suggestions on what this week's topic should be....so here it goes....flip flops....in the middle of the winter...yes, I said it....and yes, some of you will be offended by it...but remember, I just want you to know how to dress appropriately so that you can look the best you can possibly look...

Picture this, it's about 32 degrees out with snow on the ground and I am trecking through the white bliss of the car rider parking lot (in Sperry's) when I look down and see none other than...flip flops. Now, I love wearing flip flops in the summer time just as much as the next girl, but I question those who choose to wear them when there is SNOW ON THE GROUND! Surely, for goodness sakes, you can find a pair of shoes to wear IN THE WINTER TIME which will cover your feet? When you are wearing a sweat shirt and jeans it is obvious that you are WELL aware that it is winter. Just because you think they are comfortable does not mean that they are appropriate to wear ALL YEAR LONG! Even though I love wearing my UGG boots, it would not make sense for me to wear them when it is 90 degrees in the middle of August now would it? No, I didn't think so. What on Earth are you thinking?

Oh, so you're thinking you don't know shoes to wear? Here's a few suggestions:
1)Sperry's (They don't have to be real Sperry's, but they are obviously in style. Because your jeans most likely cover the tops of them you can also wear a nice pair of warm socks.)
2)UGG boots (Again, they do not have to be UGG boots, but again, they are obviously in style, who cares what that guy says that sits next to you in your Animal Science class says, and once again, they keep your feet warm, considering it is WINTER and all.)
3)Moccasins (These fur filled shoes can be found at many stores this winter. They are both warm and stylish, and because they come in many colors, just like those flip flops you seem to be in love with, they can be worn with almost anything.) 4)Ballet Flats (Even though these aren't the warmest shoes out there, they are again very stylish, colorful, and depending on the brand, very comfortable.)
5)Tennis shoes (Tennis shoes come in all colors and styles and many of todays modern twists on the classic Converse tennis shoe have become very popular.)

Now, I would venture to say that you have at least one pair of one of the above listed in your closet that you could wear IN THE MIDDLE OF WINTER other than your beloved flip flops. And if you're not convinced to change your ways because of my "fashion" reasons, maybe you should consider a couple of the health benefits of wearing shoes other than flip flops IN THE MIDDLE OF WINTER.
1)Flip Flops have no arch support, which could cause permanent damage to your feet and possibly to your back. You are a high school student and I know that like every other high school student you have the stresses of homework, relationships, and more clubs than you can handle on your shoulders already, so give your feet a rest.
2)Walking through the snow with flip flops on for a long period of time could result in frost bitten feet. Enough Said.

Pants On the Ground, Pants On the Ground

Seriously, you 'look like a fool wit' yo' pants on tha' ground!' I don't know why some boys find it necessary to wear their pants so far off their waist that you can not only see their boxers but you can almost see part of their leg. On top of that they wear belts with huge belt buckles. Honestly, what is the point of wearing a belt with pants that wouldn't fit someone five sizes bigger than you? It is especially unattractive on boys who are not of the proper ethnicity to even slightly pull the look off. I think it is much more attractive for boys, of any ethnicity, to wear pants which flatter their assests, if you know what I mean. Of course there might be some girls out there who like that look, but I'm sure they wouldn't mind if you pulled your pants up or wore pants that actually fit you. Even though most of the boys wearing these pants wouldn't actually take the advice of General Larry Platt, they should, as well as taking mine. When you dress yourself in the morning ask yourself, "What am I thinking?"

Dress Your Age

I have decided to dedicate my first blog to dressing your age. As I have roamed the hallways of the school I have noticed teachers both dressing too young and teachers dressing too old. If you are somewhere around 42 years old and appear to be a student who is late to school (because you are carrying your back pack, wearing khaki pants, a Hollister sweat shirt, and UGG boots) you should probably re-think your attire when you wake up by asking yourself when you look in the mirror: What Was I Thinking? Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with this attire for a student who is going for the comfy look, but I do not suggest that an adult working in a professional environment choose to wear this to work. Some people would probably think that I am against UGG boots, that I am not. I will be the first person to say that UGG boots are perhaps the most comfortable shoe that ever touched my sole. I will say again, I do not believe them appropriate for a teacher at work, especially when paired with a Hollister sweat shirt. So if this is not the appropriate attire, one might ask, what is? Well, I suggest dress pants paired with a blouse and flats or heals, a dark wash pair of appropriate fitting jeans along with a nicer blouse, a dress suit when you're feeling extra professional, a skirt and top, or khaki pants along with a nice blouse paired with flats or appropriate tennis shoes. Of course there are a variety of other options, but these are the ones I highly suggest. I hope my first post wasn't offensive to anyone, but keep in mind, I am only trying to help. I sincerely would like you to look the best that you can, because I believe that you have the potential!
